We're married! The wedding weekend was so wonderful, and our honeymoon in Ireland was just beautiful. I was working on writing real entries to chronicle in more detail all the of memorable moments, but I started this entry and, although it is simply a couple of bulleted lists, it definitely gives a good view of the events. Who knows? Maybe I'll write more still to keep that newlywed buzz alive.
Here are some highlights from our wedding and honeymoon. We hope to post wedding photos soon, but there are a ton on Facebook that friends have posted if you just can't wait).
You can see our honeymoon photos here and here.
Wedding Weekend Highlights
- Sporting bride and groom caps and carrying my bow bouquet at the rehearsal
- Geoff's first massage
- Post rehearsal BBQ -- mmm burnt hot dogs
- The rehearsal dinner at the Old Mill with some of our closest friends and family
- Surprising the girls with Swarovski bags
- Sipping appletinis and watching prom goers at the Marriott with Em and Amber
- Getting married!!! Even with the rain, it was beautiful...everything I could have asked for.
- Becoming a Bloom!
- Showing my assertive side to get through the professional photos. "I love you all, but you need to MOVE."
- In response, Jeff asking if I'd babysit, and explaining that he'd come home and "the kids will be lined up wearing sweater vests."
- Dancing--with Geoff, with my Dad, with Lydia, with my girls
- The Dollar Dance (it may be cheesy or even seem a bit greedy to some, but it was a great way to make sure I got to see and talk to everyone, so I loved it)
- Being with so many people who love us (ahh)
- Timmy Poopy and his one glove!
- Geoff's almond flavored Bruins groom's cake (he had no idea!)
- Having Aunt Line and Uncle Nelson down from Canada, and Uncle Larry and Antonio over from Germany.
- Geoff removing my Boston Bruins garter to the Indian Jones theme song.
- Seeing Christina and Scott, who drove up from PA for the wedding
- Having curls in my hair
- ALL of our vendors--they were so organized and attentive, and did such an amazing job
- Our aching feet after the wedding and the realization, after lying down, that we still had contacts in
- Impromptu post-wedding breakfast with the Blooms
Highlights from our Honeymoon in Ireland
- Walking through Logan with my veil on
- Free champagne from Aer Lingus
- Getting upgraded to a red Hyundai Accent for our rental car. This is the car Geoff drove when we first met!
- Geoffrey becoming a pro at driving on the other side of the road (he only filled one swear jar that first day, and by the end other tourists were pulling over so he could pass)
- Amy's encounter with a huge cockroach with wings... May Fly?
- The Cliffs of Moher
- Finding out that the Cliffs of Moher are also the Cliffs of Insanity!! Thank you to Jodi and Tim for getting us Little Known Facts about Well Known Places in Ireland
- Bailey's Tobelrone Cheesecake
- Purple Heaven at the V
- Homemade scones, jam, and tea with a view
- Our first taste of Guinness, and the discovery that we are not fans
- Bullmer's Cider (both apple and pear) and Robert A. Merry's Irish Cream
- Being tricked into thinking we were going to see some real Irish music, but instead finding a bunch of 60 year olds singing country Irish music on karaoke night.
- First tastes of black and white pudding (and more homemade scones...mmmmmm)
- Driving the Beara Peninsula and taking a road less traveled
- Ice cream cones with flake bars in them
- Cattle Crossing
- Seeing the shadows of the clouds on the mountains
- The smell of ocean mixed with evergreens
- Chips dipped in Irish mayonnaise (I don't even like mayonnaise, but over there, it's tasty)
- Random guy dressed as a leprechaun in Killarney National Park
- Maybe 40 minutes of rain over 6 days...but when it rained, it hailed
- Sandhoppers at the beach. Eek!
- Watching other silly tourists getting saved by a tractor because they pulled too far onto the beach.
I could go on and on, and Geoff probably has even more to add.
We were so happy with our wedding and our honeymoon. I can't believe it is all over. It feels great. There is so much more to look forward to, too: the new job that Geoff will most definitely land soon; the new place that we'll find to call home, (where we'll be able to open and use the wonderful gifts we received-KitchenAid!!!); the baby (or maybe babies) we'll have; the day in the distant future when we'll be in rockers on our front porch, still together, thinking back to this time and smiling...
I need to get to bed, so I'll leave you with this because it is from the author with whom I now share a name:
"Marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner." - Amy Bloom
and this, because I can't believe how much I've laughed in the few weeks since Geoff and I became Mr. and Mrs. Bloom:
"Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that's a real treat." - Joanne Woodward
Love you all!
Amy Bloom
